A letter to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal from a group of intellectuals and academicians:
On July 13, a horrific and brutal murder of a 19-year-old girl was made as she was stabbed 35 times by two youngsters in front of 50 people. She was stabbed for resisting molestation two years ago.
The said group has written an open letter to Arvind Kejriwal asking him to stop politicizing the death of a teenage woman who took the last breath recently in the Delhi.
Who are in said group??
Monika Arora (Convener)
Sushma Yadav of IGNOU,
businesswomen Lalita Nijhawan
Sushila Madan and Jaspali Chauhan, both professors,
Shweta, an artist and
Dr Nandini Sharma, writes to the Delhi chief minister.
The Later contained following extracts:
“You had stated that you will ensure that women can go about their jobs in the city free of stress while travelling by public transport. The teenager girl who was on the verge of becoming a DTC conductor probably voted for a more responsible chief minister. Not only she, but every woman who voted you had confidence in you that you will make the capital a safer city. You said that you will set up Mahila Suraksha Dal or Women’s Security Force made up of a 10,000 strong Home Guard and also to use 5,000 bus marshals to prevent and deter crime on public transport,”
Further they mentioned the behaviour of him as “irresponsible approach after becoming the chief minister of Delhi.”
“Instead of taking the security measure for the protection of women in Delhi, you are indulging in confrontation with the Delhi Police, lieutenant governor and even the Constitution of India,”
“In your last regime for 49 days you apologized for resigning from the government and asked us to give you one more choice to your “5 Saal Kejriwal”. We the people of Delhi gave you overwhelming majority…But during your second regime also, you are always seen as complaining and protesting unnecessarily and not behaving as a responsible elected representative of the people.”
“The women in Delhi have no love for the Delhi police as they are very indifferent to the woes of women, inefficient and corrupt. But the safety and security of Delhi as of today is in the hands of Delhi Police. But you as people representative derogate and insult them and call them ‘thulla’ in public which is shameful,” the group says.
Referring to the fake degree case in which then AAP law minister Jitender Singh Tomar was arrested and well as other cases against Manoj Kumar, SK Bagga, Kumar Vishwas and Somnath Bharti that have tarnished the party’s image, the letter says, “The promise of good governance will come into the picture only when the ministers with clean image will be at the helm of affairs and at the top positions in the cabinet”.
In the end there was an emotional appeal, “For God’s sake, stop playing dirty politics on the dead body of a teenage woman and concentrate on doing something positive toward woman security as promised. BUT TILL NOW FORGOTTEN.”
It will be important to see how Kejriwal will react on this, stay tuned with us for the updates !!!
