On Saturday (11th July, 2015), India’s tennis queen Sania Mirza created history by becoming the first female player from the India to win a women’s doubles Grand Slam trophy. She won this trophy with Swiss partner Martina Hingis in London. It was the proud moment for India.

Sania Mirza and her partner Martina Hingis made 5-7 7-6(4) 7-5 to win over Russians Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina. An interesting news is that Sania had won women’s doubles junior Wimbledon championship with Russian partner Alisa Kleybanova in 2003.
Though Sania Mirza has won three mixed doubles titles at the majors, it was a first women’s doubles title for her at a Grand Slam. Sania is the winner of three mixed doubles Grand Slam trophies. She won Australian Open (2009) and French Open (2012) with Mahesh Bhupathi and the US Open with Bruno Soares last year (2014).
